- If you glued the wood today, wait at least 24 hours before sanding it on our machines to prevent glue from damaging the sandpaper.
- Before sanding:
- Check sanding disc, belt, or drums for any tears or burn marks.
- Make note of any damage and report it so that the Shop Manager can post an “out of order” sign.
- Open vacuum vents.
- Start machine and clean sandpaper, if necessary, with the rubber cleaning block.
- Things not to be sanded on our sanding machines:
- Don’t sand wood with any excess exposed glue (scrape it off first).
- No sanding of painted boards or boards with any finish on it (use hand sanders).
- No sanding of MDF, particle board, or Melamine. The resins will gum up the abrasive paper.
- Any item on the “Do Not Cut List” posted on the front wall of the machine shop.
- No sanding of pine boards
- Sanding of pine boards is permitted only on horizontal sander # 49 and surface sander # 14 .
- When sanding hard woods (like: oak, hickory, etc…) or exotic woods (like: padauk, purpleheart…) move the wood on the sandpaper to prevent burn marks.
- When finished:
- Clean the sandpaper with the rubber cleaning block if necessary.
- Turn off all switches.
- Clean up your mess (brush off sanding machine, sweep floor).
- Close vacuum vents.
- If you have any questions; check with a Board Member, or Shop Manager.
