- Tighten all three jaws of the chuck with key.
- Remove key and put in holder before starting machine.
- Spin chuck around to make sure bit is in chuck properly.
- Use slow speeds for Forstner and flat bottom bits.
- Use back up board to help prevent or reduce blow out of board being drilled.
- If not using back up board, make sure bit does not go into metal base of stand.
- Hold material firmly or use clamps to prevent material from spinning around. If the piece is long enough, let it rest to the left side of the column to prevent it from spinning out of your hands.
- Use drill press vise to hold small pieces.
- There is a stop gauge on side of drill press for shallow or incomplete holes.
- Clean up mess when finished.
